We're watching the spread of the BP spill across the Gulf with the same mixture of horror and regret shared by most. Today we join in the hope that the “top kill” maneuver created by BP to plug the runaway well and begun on Wednesday will do what it's supposed to and plug the hole. As we watch and wait, a sore subject that cannot be put off much longer is rightly making its way into the national conversation.
